António Barbosa, Head EngineerTo facilitate easy machining and superior performance while creating molds, Moldmak uniquely designed a cutting-edge solution, Index, which transformed the way molds are developed. “With the part fixed on the rotary table and the movement only occurring on the side of the tool, our machine can work on all milling surfaces with the same setup,” says António Barbosa, the Head Engineer of the company. Furthermore, as the tool is the only unit that is moving in the machine, the part’s weight has no impact on the machining process, thereby leading to more accurate molds. Due to the reduced setup and execution times, the Index solution’s performance is 30 percent better than the conventional solutions available in the market. With multitasking functions that allow molds to be milled in only two setups with a simple code, the company brings precision and ease of use to the entire moldmaking industry.
The company’s proficiency in developing such highly effective solutions can be attributed to its work culture.
Right from its inception, Moldmak has fostered a culture of innovation, and that has enabled the company to deliver on the customers’ discrete requirements concerning moldmaking. Armed with a workforce of industry experts, the company is constantly in check with the concerns and apprehensions of the mold makers. Accordingly, it works hand-in-hand with them to provide solutions capable of improving the accuracy, speed, and quality of moldmaking procedures. With that being said, the company aspires to innovate constantly and emphasizes developing reliable and productive solutions as opposed to mere visually appealing products.![]()

Moldmak’s collaboration with Portuguese mold makers validates the capabilities of its solutions. Previously, the Portuguese mold makers deep hole drilling requirements across varied projects were addressed by the local companies available in the region. By utilizing Moldmak’s solution, these clients were able to bring the machining process in-house and reduce expenditures on the outsourced partners. The solutions delivered high performance consistently across three shifts, seven days a week, which even superseded the client’s expectations. As a result, they were able to measure significant gains inproductivity and profitability, even in these competitive times through these machines.
Building upon such successful accomplishments, the company is on track to improve its footprint globally by developing more solutions for new parts and materials. The company also launched the Compact HMC machine. This new solution makes it possible to broadly access the entire volumetry of the part to be machined, taking advantage of all the capabilities of 3+2 and 5 continuous axes machining.
The Compact HMC has been designed with particular attention to the needs for the machining of fixtures and movable elements made of high-hardness steels and, therefore, Moldmak have equipped the machine with direct-drive drive and direct feedback on all axes to enhance the machine’s precision and repeatability. Additionally, the Compact HMC is equipped with a “W” axis dedicated to deep hole drilling processes in the same setup. Bolstered by these initiatives for the future, Moldmak strives to cement itself as the go-to partner for customers requiring the best CNC machining solutions for moldmaking and machining processes.
