Additive Manufacturing (AM) is actively challenging the traditional methods of product manufacturing and is undisputedly winning at it. Creating a 3D model from its digital design, layer by layer has transformed the way the manufacturing industry operates. AM has enabled this transformation in the manufacturing sector by fabrication of 3D models for automotive, aerospace, education, and medical sector, resulting in the formation of parts and goods that are geometrically complex. Due to its transformative ability to create geometrically complicated designs, industry experts have predicted that the enterprises working in the manufacturing or production market will increase their business to around 14 billion dollars by 2020.

AM gives the designers the freedom to explore the hidden areas of the manufacturing sector and designing spaces which otherwise are not plausible. Product designs that are possible, theoretically and digitally, find themselves stuck due to the limitations of the conventional manufacturing processes, but with AM these limitations are eliminating gradually. The range of independence AM provides in the designing and fabricating space has found its application in the 3D printing of models, creating prototypes of a product, and developing small parts of an electronic instrument. On the same line, the spare parts industry indulging in the manufacturing of automobiles and industrial machines is employing additive manufacturing to print parts on demand rather than storing and maintaining them in physical locations.

Businesses like the automotive industry, healthcare facilities, the aerospace sector, and education division are also employing additive manufacturing for creating the designs which are sophisticated and complex. Healthcare sector has been using this technology to design and produce prosthetics for dental care and orthopedic implants. The education sector is utilizing 3D modeling to positively influence the learning process in design through trial and error. Similarly, tools and components manufactured for the automotive division using AM are precise and reliable. But, apart from producing complex products, manufacturers are also teaming up to create consumer goods such as shoes using an additive manufacturing technique, as this method is cost-effective compared to traditional manufacturing methods. Walking on the similar path, more businesses are gradually adapting and accepting the vast capabilities of AM; the manufacturing sector, on the other hand, is witnessing a modification in its conventional and old methods, layer by layer.
