Significant Applications for Industrial Robots

Manufacturing Technology Insights | Thursday, April 22, 2021

The application of industrial robots is increasing in processing and manufacturing as it helps to improve the safety of the workspace.

FREMONT, CA:-Industrial robots' programmability was primarily a tool that allowed them to be used for various tasks, but it didn't give them intelligence. They were used because of their accuracy and repeatability in completing monotonous and hazardous tasks. As a result, since 2010, the automotive industry has been the largest user of industrial robots.

Since their incorporation to the manufacturing system, industrial robots have revolutionized the industrial workforce through industries. By 2027, the industrial robot's market is expected to be worth more than $66 billion, with a CAGR of 15.1 percent over the forecast period.

The automotive industry has been one of the earliest and most committed adopters of industrial robotic technology, and this trend continues today. Robots are used in almost every aspect of automotive production, and it continues to be one of the world's most automated supply chains.

Conventional industrial robots are programmed to perform the following tasks:

Arc Welding

In the 1980s, arc welding, also known as robot welding, became popular. One of the key drivers behind the transition to robot welding is securing employees from arc burns and toxic gases.

Spot Welding

Spot welding connects two contacting metal surfaces by passing a large current through the spot, melting the metal and forming the weld in a short amount of time (almost ten milliseconds).

Materials Handling

To move, pack, and select products, material handling robots are used. They can also automate functions such as the transfer of component from one piece of equipment to another. Direct labor costs can be reduced, and many of the repetitive and dangerous tasks that humans previously performed are no longer necessary.

Machine Tending

The process of loading and unloading raw materials into machinery for processing and monitoring the machine as it works is known as robotic automation for machine tending.

Gluing, Adhesive Sealing and Spraying Materials

Sealer robots come with various robotic arm configurations that enable them to attach adhesives to multiple products. The primary advantage of this application is improved final product quality, speed, and reliability.

Painting

Robotic painting is utilized in the automotive industry and many other sectors to improve product quality and consistency. Rework is also reduced, resulting in cost savings.
