From Manual Work to Repeatable Results

Cryogenic Systems & Parts manufactures basket-style machines in 0.75-, 1.5- and 3-cubic-foot capacities for small to medium parts, as well as the model LCC 6000, a six-cubic-foot belt-style machine designed for larger, heavier parts and high-volume processing. Operators can store recipes for different parts, allowing established settings for processing time, temperature and post-tumble to be reused rather than recreated for each production run. Cycle times generally range from three to 12 minutes, while an integrated dryer can circulate media and inject hot air for a three- to six-hour drying cycle, depending on moisture levels, to remove moisture after deflashing.

The value of that approach became clear for one customer producing small plastic threaded fittings on a Swiss machine. During machining, long strands of plastic curled around the parts, creating what the customer called “chip wraps.” Workers had to pull the material away by hand, consuming labor and time and making it difficult to keep up with production.

Cryogenic Systems & Parts supplied the customer with a SCC 1505, its 1.5-cubic-foot machine. A small box of parts could be processed in about five minutes, removing the chip wraps and burrs. The manufacturer could then machine, deburr and ship parts faster, replacing a labor-intensive manual task.

The equipment’s reliability is supported by a longstanding design dating to the 1980s, with the company continuing to service machines from the 1990s that remain in operation.

Controlling Deflashing Quality Across Production Runs

Flash removal can become an expensive production problem when hand trimming produces different results from one shift to another. Manual trimming may work at low volumes, but as output grows, the cracks start to show. Labor costs increase and scrap becomes harder to control.
