HiT Power, a leading innovator in the power electronics sector, distinguishes itself through its commitment to superior product quality and exemplary customer service. Co-founded by Professors Mohammad Abusara and Suleiman Sharkh, HiT Power has set out to commercialise their advanced university research on grid-connected inverter technology into market-leading solutions showcasing its expertise in the field.

Central to HiT Power’s product lineup is the Power-Save 100 (PS100), a state-of-the-art 100-kilowatt bidirectional power electronic inverter, engineered for grid-connected and off-grid battery storage applications. The PS100 is a testament to the rigorous research efforts with a focus on optimising performance and cost efficiency. A key advantage of the PS100 is its broad DC input voltage range, ensuring it works harmoniously with a variety of battery modules. The inverter excels at various functions, including peak shaving, load shifting and ancillary grid services like frequency support. PS100 is controlled by HiT Power’s smart energy management system, making it a crucial tool in modern power solutions.

Operational in grid-following mode, the PS100 aligns seamlessly with external AC buses, enabling a fluid power exchange that adjusts to demand by either charging or discharging batteries. Its utility becomes even more crucial when power reliability is a concern, such as construction sites plagued by frequent outages. Here, the PS100’s cutting-edge static switch facilitates a smooth transition to grid-forming mode, establishing microgrids for consistent electricity supply. This innovative feature, as Professor Abusara elucidates, allows for “seamless transitions between grid following and forming modes, ensuring uninterrupted power supply during potential outages.”

HiT Power has strategically broadened its services, fostering synergistic partnerships that have yielded significant mutual benefits. An example of this collaborative approach is the company’s engagement with GS Yuasa, a leading battery manufacturer. GS Yuasa sought a 100-kilowatt inverter for a specific project, which coincided with the development of HiT Power’s PS100 inverter. This partnership materialized in 2018 with the deployment of the PS100 for the ADEPT project, a power management and optimization platform utilizing dual chemistry batteries.

At the heart of this containerized system, the PS100 is critical in managing the power exchange between the grid and the battery, enhancing the performance of locally installed wind turbines. The inverter also performs time shifting, charging the battery during low tariffs and discharging it during peak tariffs.

In another instance, HiT Power assisted the Royal Mint, the oldest coin minting company in the UK in implementing a new energy management system. The Royal Mint had a combined heat and power (CHP) system in place, which operates at a slower pace than power electronics due to being based on gas engines. Consequently, the site’s rapidly fluctuating load posed a challenge to the CHP system, leading the Royal Mint to hybridize their systems. To address this issue, HiT Power installed a 400-kilowatt battery storage system based on four PS100s. The purpose of this setup was to prevent the excess power generated on-site by the CHP system from being fed back into the grid, which was not permitted by network operators. The company’s battery storage system ensured that any excess power generated (beyond the energy requirements of the site) is diverted into the battery for storage. Likewise, when the site’s load increases, the stored power from the battery could be discharged to meet the demand.

The successful collaboration of HiT Power with GS Yuasa and the Royal Mint is attributed to the former’s exceptional product quality and dedicated customer support. It has demonstrated a commitment to clients by actively participating in a shared learning journey, embracing successes and challenges to deliver a fully operational and reliable energy solution.

Further illustrating its global impact, HiT Power successfully implemented the PS100 in Kathmandu, Nepal, to address power outage issues in 20 apartments and is planning a similar deployment in Johannesburg, South Africa, to combat frequent load shedding. In these instances, HiT Power’s inverter system becomes a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel generators, encouraging the adoption of clean battery storage and renewable energy solutions.

HiT Power’s reputation as a dependable partner for long-term, efficient energy solutions is a testament to its skilled professional team and dedication to customer-centric service. This approach has solidified HiT Power’s status as a market leader in the power electronics sector, continuously advancing the frontier of energy technology.
