Technology Trends Impacting Enterprise Business Environment
Bud McQuade
We see a growing trend to replace copper with fiber in enterprise networks. Optical LANs are an ideal solution to leverage the cost, power and space benefits of fiber infrastructures. Compared to legacy copper networks, Optical LANs are more reliable and secure, and eliminate future cabling upgrades. Optical LANs also provide high bandwidth while dramatically reducing power consumption, cooling and space requirements.
Tellabs is also monitoring software defined network (SDN) technologies for use in the enterprise. We think moving to a more intelligent network infrastructure could have a huge impact on the computing architecture within and outside of our data centers. SDN solutions are already beginning to enable storage, computing and network resources to work together in way that is more efficient and economical.
