The TerraTran transmission, a variant of Allison's well-established 4000 Series transmission, is designed specifically for off-highway applications such as mobile cranes, articulated dump trucks, and wide-body mining dump trucks while maintaining sufficient application flexibility to allow Allison to pursue a variety of additional on-highway opportunities. According to customer feedback, TerraTran was developed to meet the demand for a gearbox with the established reliability and longevity of Allison's 4000 Series transmission, but with higher horsepower and torque and improved GVW and fast reverse capability.
TerraTran can produce up to 800 horsepower and 3,025 lb./ft of torque, depending on the application. Additionally, TerraTran has seven forward and two reverse speeds. TerraTran's incorporation of fast reverse results in increased production and occupational efficiency. TerraTran's superior drivability, grade ability, and maneuverability under rigorous working conditions have been demonstrated in almost two years of field testing.
Allison is also thrilled to announce that the TerraTran will be launched in collaboration with Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG), headquartered in Xuzhou, China, initially in XCMG's all-terrain crane application.
“Collaborating with XCMG on their all-terrain crane application is a successful example of Allison working closely with our OEM partners to develop innovative solutions that deliver unparalleled performance and productivity to our end-user customers, all in an effort to Improve the Way the World Works,” says Kartik Ramanan, Executive Director, Global Off-Highway Sales, Customer Support and Service Engineering at Allison Transmission. “TerraTran leverages Allison more than 65 years of experience moving earth, minerals and precious metals around the world where Allison Automatics have proven themselves in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.”
The inclusion of the Allison TerraTran in XCMG's all-terrain crane is expected to differentiate further the company's products' performance and value in the market and push the two parties' collaboration to the next level, according to a representative for XCMG Research and Development. XCMG's decade-long cooperation with Allison Transmission is based on Allison's products' superior performance and quality.
