By utilizing repurposed rubber from end-of-life tires manufacturer Apollo Tyres has created the playing surface for two new eco-friendly artificial soccer fields located in Chennai and Pune, India.
FREMONT, CA: Apollo Tyres has developed the playing surface for two new eco-friendly artificial soccer fields in Chennai and Pune, India, by repurposing rubber from end-of-life tires. Each field is 160 by 90 feet in size, and the playing surface is made up of 7,500 kg of crumb rubber made from 1,500 shredded tires. As a result of this layer, the playing field is safer and of higher quality. Apollo aspires to inspire the next generation of up-and-coming talent by repurposing used tires. To present, the tire manufacturer has built 11 venues in the UK and India, totaling 20 active fields. In 2022, Apollo intends to construct four more fields.

The first 'Go The Distance' field was established near Manchester United Football Club's Old Trafford stadium's North Stand. The football team also has Apollo Tyres as a sponsor. The President of Apollo Tyres in the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa remarked that Apollo Tyres is committed to long-term sustainability. Hence, these pitches that were made using reused rubber from their tires, was one of the several steps that they were taking toward their Sustainability journey.
These Go The Distance pitches have a dual purpose in ensuring a sustainable future: they provide access to sports for youth from the surrounding communities, allowing them to test and hone their athletic abilities. Apollo Tyres is actively doing its part to encourage talent from the youth to take center stage and unleash their potential, making sport accessible to all, with the help of #Repurposed tires that have been utilized to build the surface of artificial and sustainable sports pitches.
One billion end-of-life tires (ELT) are produced year around the world, with 4 billion of these tires polluting the environment and lingering in landfills and stockpiles. In the true spirit of #TyresToTurf, Apollo Tyres had the idea to recycle, reuse, and repurpose tires and change the lives of countless people by encouraging a good influence through the medium of sports by establishing multi-sport playing eco-friendly places.
