DENSO Corporation has announced the development of a Factory-IoT Platform, which can connect 130 production factories globally.

FREMONT, CA: DENSO Corporation has announced the development of a Factory-IoT Platform, which can connect 130 production factories globally with information technology (IT) and the internet of things (IoT) technologies, based on the concept of as if under one roof.

This is the first in-house development of a cloud-native (1) platform that uses open-source-software (2) in the automotive supplier industry. The new advanced platform can store data gathered from several types of equipment at various production sites in a single cloud, which can be utilized freely across DENSO's organization.

By connecting factories worldwide in the cloud, it can increase the strength of DENSO's global production system. It will also help the factories to respond instantly to production changes based on local demand and permits the production teams to perform real-time analysis of the movement of workers and operation statuses of various facilities. The technical engineers in the field can even implement digital power by utilizing their software into the physical enhancement activities collected over many years. It will help the company to increase its efficiency, quality, and cost savings. For example, it is possible to inform the operator about equipment abnormalities and more by connecting several devices.

After a two-year development period, in October 2019, DENSO executed the Factory-IoT platform. In the development procedure, DENSO prioritized on three points, which are as follows:

• Providing in-house software engineers, the capability to continuously enhance and evolve the platform even after it has been put into operation

• Improving the company's skill to leverage agile development methods that consist of short cycles of development

• Permitting DENSO to share data with internal and external partners as an open platform to collaborate to enhance and develop applications

Due to such innovative features, DENSO became the first automotive supplier to develop its cloud-native Factory-IoT platform instead of utilizing their present services.
