The modern world and its technology include a variety of rubber and its products. They are widely used in various areas of the national economy and regular life, from modern transport and technical rubber products to consumer goods and hygiene. Therefore, this type of industry develops rapidly, entailing a simultaneous increase in atmospheric emissions during production, operation, and storage. Depending on the technological process, harmful gases are emitted into the atmosphere.
The protection of rubbers, their compounds, and vulcanizates during various types of ageing has become critical. Rubber products are significantly exposed to temperature and dynamic loads. As a result, the search and use of effective stabilising systems occupy a leading position. Additionally, the currently used chemical stabilisers are poorly dispersed in viscous-flowing compounds, which are rubber elements, at the mixing stage.
This leads to vulcanizates of such rubber compounds receiving an incomplete or nonuniform complex of necessary properties throughout the batch. Additional chemical additives and dispersants are used in rubber compounds to solve this issue. Surfactants of various chemical compositions typically perform their functions. An increase in chemicals in rubber compounds reduced the environmental safety of rubber products. Rubber stabilisers that are derivatives of diphenylamine have high toxic and resorptive properties and exhibit carcinogenic effects.
Stabilisers' primary function is to protect the rubber from ozone ageing. Intensive migration of stabilisers to the surface of the product causes the release of stabiliser molecules into the environment and their physicochemical transformation under the influence of the atmosphere, leading to the formation of various toxic substances, including nitrosamines.
Increasing the environmental safety of rubbers by alleviating their content or replacing them with environmentally friendly analogues, improving the distribution and dispersion of stabilisers in rubber compounds, and reducing the migration rate in the production and operation of rubber products is an immediate issue.
The use of natural substances playing the role of protecting rubbers from thermal, and atmospheric ageing and increasing the dynamic endurance of vulcanisates simultaneously solves this problem. Many companies have been working on the creation of environmentally friendly green rubber products. This has resulted in the production of rubber compounds for the manufacture of automotive rubber products from environmentally friendly materials.
The use of environmentally friendly natural analogues made it possible to reduce the amine-containing inhibitors to a safe amount, reducing the effect of the sublimation, migration, and volatility of the rubber inhibitors on the environmental situation of production, processing, and the operation of rubber products. Furthermore, the presence of surfactants in them improved the dispersion of the rubber compound ingredients, leading to the stabilisation of the vulcanizate compounds.
