IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU is the latest addition to a well-established family of elastomer products that are widely used in hose applications and recognized for their wear performance, hydrolytic and microbiological resistance.
FREMONT, CA: Huntsman, a global chemical company, manufacturers of lay-flat hoses for high pressure industrial and municipal applications, now have a new Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) at their disposal. IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU is a very adaptable, long-lasting elastomer that may be used to make a wide range of hoses, including those used by firemen to put out fires.

IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU is the latest addition to a well-established family of elastomer products that are widely used in hose applications and recognized for their wear performance, hydrolytic and microbiological resistance. It is designed for usage via the “extrusion through-the-weave” process.
Trent Shidaker, Global Marketing Director, Elastomers at Huntsman, said: “Our team has extensive experience in the development of TPUs for hose applications–lay flat or otherwise. IROGRA A 85 P 4394 HR TPU takes our work in this sector to the next level. Developed in close cooperation with several of our hose customers, this new TPU grade offers significant improvements over previous generation technologies when it comes to durability, production efficiency and reducing manufacturing waste. Less likely to break once in situ, extruded films made from IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU can help increase the longevity of hoses employed in mission critical applications.”
IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU, developed by Huntsman’s Specialty Elastomers expertise, has a low melt volume-flow rate (MVR), which boosts the material’s total tensile strength once extruded. Hoses constructed from IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU have a higher tensile strength, making them less prone to fail in the field and better equipped to endure high-pressure circumstances. This could be anywhere from 8 to 20 bar in the case of fire hoses (800 to 2000 kPa; 116 to 290 psi).
The Huntsman elastomer chemistry used in IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 HR TPU dates back to 2004 when the flagship product in this revolutionary series of materials was originally produced. Huntsman also offers the following IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 TPU products:
IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 TPU–A legacy product introduced in 2004 for thin wall technical parts, thin wall extrusion profiles, spiral hoses, cable jacketing, and film and sheet applications.
IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 FCM TPU–Introduced in 2015, this grade has comparable basic chemistry to the normal version of IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 TPU but is made with FDA-approved raw ingredients for food processing belts and has an NSF 61 rating (approved for potable water applications).
IROGRAN A 85 P 4394 UV TPU—This product, which was also introduced in 2015, is fortified with special ingredients that allow it to survive UV exposure while preserving good physical qualities and aesthetics. Pneumatic tubing for aircraft, industrial equipment, and fracking hoses are all made with this commodity.
