KUKA demonstrates a new line of hygienic food processing automation solutions and other robot models at IPPE, 2022
FREMONT CA: At the International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta, KUKA Robotics highlighted its extensive product range of automation solutions primarily for the meat, poultry, egg, and other fast-moving consumer goods processing market sector, with cleanliness and safety at the forefront. KUKA's Hygienic Machine (HM) and Hygienic Oil (HO) robot portfolios, as well as its entirely hygienic, all-stainless steel KR3 Delta and food processing versions of its other robot models, were among the company's breakthroughs. Food processing industries can now use robots to automate operations that were previously difficult, if not impossible, to automate.

Corrosion-resistant surfaces, such as stainless steel flanges and other essential components, are featured on robots in KUKA's HM portfolio, such as the AGILUS HM. All axes of the robot arms are lubricated with food-safe lubricants, and the surfaces are smooth for simple cleaning. The AGILUS HM is available in four variations, each with the same payloads and ranges as normal AGILUS models. They also include a specific cable outlet underneath the robot that can be cleaned with high-pressure cleaners.
AGILUS, CYBERTECH, CYBERTECH NANO, QUANTEC2, QUANTEC2 PA, and IONTEC standard models are part of KUKA's HO portfolio. All of the HO robots use NSF H1 lubrication, which is fully non-toxic and food-safe. HO robots are well suited for secondary food processing applications when the product is dry or packaged, and they meet all safety and sanitary criteria. Humans are unharmed by any contact between HO robots and food products, and their light grey surface color immediately shows any contamination.
The KR3 DELTA from KUKA is also perfect for the food industry, especially fish processing, thanks to its all-stainless design. All of the robot's seals are FDA compliant, and the robot is ISO3 clean room rated. Its design can endure alkaline or acidic high-pressure cleaning and disinfection up to 100 kPa, resulting in less maintenance and downtime. The complete robot is IP 67 high-protection certified, with IP 69K for axis four that is also ISO 3 rated for cleanroom applications and is food-sector approved for material safety according to international requirements.
KUKA presented the KR 3 DELTA with the company's KR C5 Micro Controller at IPPE 2022, which uses approximately 35% less energy than previous designs. The scalable, simple-to-install controller saves space, increases efficiency, and seamlessly integrates into existing production platforms.
