Under high pressure, a gas, like nitrogen, is applied to plastic or rubber compounds to create closed cell foam. Direct exposure to the gas can make foam, or it can be produced by adding gas-forming agents to the material.
FREMONT, CA: A closed cell foam consists of tightly compressed and enclosed "cells" as opposed to an open, traditional polyurethane foam or an open cell foam with interconnected cells. When observing various types of foam, one typically observes that they appear to be composed of small bubbles. These bubbles are not connected in closed-cell foam, so each contains a tiny gas pocket. Generally, the bubbles in closed-cell foam appear more tightly packed and smaller, making the foam more durable and suitable for heavy-duty applications.

Instead of penetrating the foam, water rolls off its sides. Flotex has a spongy texture and a greater pressure resistance than rigid polyethylene foam. Closed-cell foam is a versatile material that provides increased stability and a tight, closed seal. The shape has various hues and thicknesses, and closed-cell foams are more durable and rigid.

Polystyrene Foam: When closed-cell foam blocks are required, polystyrene is the best material to use. Foams made from this material may be purchased individually or in packs for an added value to accommodate the project's scope. This foam is available in various densities to ensure that the desired density can be obtained. This foam is recommended for storage and packaging applications and is a highly rigid foam.
