Packsize is presenting a new machine designed to produce on-demand, right-sized boxes exclusively for Walmart, which will provide customers with speedier shipment, less waste, and an improved unwrapping experience overall.
FREMONT, CA: “Walmart’s fulfillment network and addition of 4 next-generation FCs are not just a game-changer, but a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of e-commerce,” says Rod Gallaway, CEO of Packsize. Packsize®, the global leader in sustainable Right-Sized Packaging On Demand®, has unveiled the Ultra5, a right-sized, on-demand box machine based on the previously revealed X5 technology. The Ultra5 has already been implemented in various fulfillment centers (FCs), including the first of Walmart's next-generation fulfillment facilities.

"They have embraced cutting-edge and innovative technology, like our Ultra5 machine, and taken bold steps to streamline their fulfillment processes. Packsize is proud to work with Walmart to help set a new standard for customer convenience, satisfaction, and e-commerce order fulfillment," adds Gallaway.
Along with the Packsizes X5 machine, the Ultra5 can manufacture up to 600 boxes per hour and has the highest packing throughput in its class while contributing to less waste and fewer emissions. The Packsize solution lowers packing waste caused by big boxes, eliminates empty fillers such as plastic air cushions, reduces shipping emissions, and enhances the unboxing experience for consumers. By optimizing box dimensions, the technique reduces the costs and environmental effects of unnecessary corrugated boxes. It also improves parcel operations, allowing merchants to accommodate up to 33 percent more boxes on freight and delivery carriers, thereby facilitating the daily delivery of more customer orders.
“By working with Packsize to develop the Ultra5 machine, we created an innovative packaging solution that tailors each box to the items we are shipping to customers, eliminating unnecessary waste and improving the unboxing experience once the package arrives,” says Prathibha Rajashekhar, senior vice president, innovation & automation, Walmart U.S. “In keeping with our commitment to becoming a regenerative company, the Ultra5 solution is a win for our customers, the business, and our planet.”
The Ultra5 has great advantages for Walmart's fulfillment network in terms of both the environment and e-commerce. Orders may be packed, tagged, and ready to ship in as little as 30 minutes, thanks to its industry-leading speeds, contributing to increased throughput. By wrapping a paper band around the flaps and securing them to the edges of the box, the Flaps Down function of the Ultra5 enables boxes to move through the packing process without interruption.
