Since energy consumption is one of the most pressing challenges in the current world, the business is continually evolving. Below are some power electronics technologies that experts predict will emerge in 2022.
GaN Power Supplies in Data Centers: The increasing expansion of IoT and machine learning technologies has resulted in an explosion of data centers that demand massive electricity. As a result, data center operators are looking for more efficient options, of which GaN (gallium nitride) power supply could be one.
Smaller and more efficient GaN power sources will enable data centers to boost server density by up to 56 percent while lowering capital expenses. Additionally, solutions based on GaN will cut CO2 emissions.
GaN Chargers: Today, it is apparent that silicon, as the heart of electronic chips, is no longer capable of supporting electronics progress. GaN is becoming a more efficient alternative with other prospective silicon substitutes. GaN power transistors, in particular, have the potential to address significant difficulties in power electronics, particularly in the consumer and automotive markets.
GaN chargers are more compact and can charge numerous devices concurrently. For example, compared to conventional chargers, GaN versions can charge devices faster while consuming up to 50 percent less energy. By 2022, people expect to see an increase in the number of such chargers on the market as their price decreases. Additionally, more firms involved in power electronics design will utilize GaN power transistors.
Electric Cars: Since the inception of electric vehicles (EV), the most difficult issue has been energy storage and consumption. These two factors dictate how far the car can travel and how frequently it must be recharged, so, unsurprisingly, EV producers are looking for better alternatives to standard silicon-based power electronics.
GaN batteries have a higher capacity and are more compact, making them ideal for electric vehicles. As a result, EV manufacturers will be forced to adopt this technology by 2022.
