The data-driven factory of the future is envisioned to be powered by 5G and high-standard industrial wireless networks.
Fremont CA: The factory of the future will rely on data-driven business models to raise profits and provide items or services to the end-user. According to estimations, the manufacturing industry will generate more revenue from services than from products by 2025, and this trend is expected to continue across all factory-related business models.

To provide better services while applying data-driven business models, a reliable, low-cost network is required. As they address Industry 4.0's fundamental networking challenges, 5G and industrial wireless networks are expected to be the driving forces behind the data-driven factory of the future. Some of the issues and how 5G can help are as follows:
Time-Critical Process Optimization: Factories are full of time-critical systems and operations that can be derailed if real-time data processing is not available. The utilization of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to navigate shop floors, collaborating robots, edge devices, and equipment are all part of these systems. Taking AGVs as an example, these vehicles are supposed to convey goods over a facility's length and breadth. Because lugging a wired cable over the shop floor can cause mishaps, AGVs are programmed to receive instructions over wireless networks.
The deterministic Wi-Fi AGVs require for their time-critical navigation procedures are provided by 5G wireless networks capable of very low-latency connections. To avoid accidents, AGVs that deviate from the path must be instantly regulated. Wearables can be utilized to control the AGV in this case. Due to the likelihood of a broken wired cable when the incident occurs, a wireless network connecting both assets is essential for this to work in real-time.
Remote Machine Monitoring and Services: The reliability of networked systems and augmented reality are required for remote machine monitoring and the possibility of offering remote maintenance or repair services. Factory equipment must be able to send machine data to the cloud in real-time, regardless of location, for remote machine monitoring. In comparison to conventional wires, 5G networks provide a more dependable and direct transfer method. Remote maintenance services follow the same structure as traditional maintenance services, delivering machine data to a central network that the service provider can access. The service provider then uses augmented reality to assist technicians on the shop floor while accessing the data. A wireless network provides the interconnection and interoperability required to provide remote services to factories in this situation.
