ABMs are becoming an important area of interest and relevance as the industry pushes for a more sustainable approach to infrastructure.
Fremont, CA: Given that the construction industry consumes more raw materials than any other economic activity, the increased pressure on it to operate more sustainably is unsurprising. Finally, the extraction of these natural resources, the fabrication of regularly used building materials, and the impact of the resulting erected structures all have a huge detrimental influence on the environment.

What are the limitations of traditional building materials?
Because of their adaptability, low cost, and practicality, construction materials such as cement, concrete, bricks, wood, steel, and glass have grown so common. Concrete, for example, has essentially supplanted numerous traditional construction materials around the world, including masonry, earth, lumber, and bamboo, over the last century or so.
Concrete is the most widely utilized substance on the globe after water; this is especially concerning given that demand for Portland Cement is predicted to climb by about 200 percent by 2050 from 2010 levels, reaching 6000 million tonnes per year. Furthermore, in order to create livable spaces, concrete constructions in hot and humid climates frequently rely on energy-intensive air conditioning systems throughout the operating stage. In colder areas, poorly insulated concrete buildings suffer from wet and mold growth within.
Why is the use of Advanced building materials increasing?
ABMs are a new class of construction materials with unique qualities that make buildings and infrastructure smarter, more sustainable, energy-efficient, and robust. Innovative alternatives to traditional building materials, as well as upgraded forms of current materials, are among the many and varied possibilities available. In addition, research on nanotechnologies to improve material qualities and functionalities, biotechnologies, and bioinspired materials to mimic natural systems has increased.
ABMs, like digital engineering in general, represent a desire to include cutting-edge and economically viable sustainable solutions in order to boost profitability, save construction time, and have a positive environmental impact.
