Today, organizations are moving away from a supply-driven to a demand-driven business cycle. Enterprises are constantly searching for ways to manage supply chain inventory, alongside determining technology to enhance planning and forecasting. Moreover, the demand for speed is forcing businesses to reduce product cycle time and move products quickly and cost-effectively. “Particularly, an optimized networked design is a powerful approach that enhances supply chain performance,” says Dr. James A. Tompkins, CEO, Tompkins International. As a supply chain consulting and implementation firm, “we provide skilled resources to help organizations develop operational strategies and speed improvement.” Tompkins International aims at maximizing supply chain performance and value creation. The company collaborates with client teams to create enhanced operations procedures, supply chain planning, and execution across all the mega processes—Plan-Buy-Make-Move-Distribute-Sell.

According to Tompkins, today’s supply chains processes are very long and complex, making it difficult for firms to truly understand its impact on the overall performance of an organization. “We educate senior management about the impact of a complicated supply chain and ways to take complexity out of the supply chain,” adds Tompkins. “Since most customers do not spend time to develop a strong strategy framework by which their operations can function, we offer a strategy workshop— beginning with business strategy and moving into supporting supply chain strategy.” The company also utilizes a variety of analytical tools and techniques to help clients visualize their transportation system, as it is one of the biggest areas of cost reduction available to firms. Tompkins and his team assist organizations to implement proper transportation management system, revolutionizing their transportation networks and organizational spends.

“Our single greatest area of expertise that provides value to our clients is in the design and implementation of automated material handling systems.

We use best-in-class handling equipment and rely on our proprietary control system—Tompkins Control System (TCS),” explains Tompkins. TCS delivers real-time, centralized control capabilities to warehouse operations. Additionally, Tompkins International offers over 20 service lines and supports over a dozen industries and segments with their solutions. One such key industry is Healthcare and Pharma. The company has been helping healthcare companies with supply chain assessments, distribution centers, and fulfillment center design, advanced technologies, full turnkey implementations of equipment and systems, and inventory management. They enable clients to be more profitable and valuable, while also becoming more agile, flexible, and adaptive to the marketplace.

It is pertinent to mention that Tompkins International’s culture firmly rests on being visionary, coaching employees to be collaborative, communicative, and skillful in all phases and aspects of supply chain. Tompkins offers many key differentiating factors across each of their service lines that make them the firm of choice. An example is their network design practice where the company seeks to maximize a client’s profits instead of focusing just on cost reduction.

For 35 years Tompkins International has been developing a strong client base who continues to collaborate with the company on new projects, maintaining a steady flow of new opportunities to build solutions. The company’s perseverance to be client-focused, concentrating on exceeding customer expectations and their experienced and skilled staff differentiate them from their competitors. “The best stories are the ones we are writing with clients all over the globe right now through our out-of-the-box solutions. For the days to come, we will continue being customer centric and offer unique solutions,” concludes Tompkins.
