Lighting solutions that work in extreme temperatures are the need of the hour. Most lighting systems are designed for an ambient temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit; colder or higher temperatures can affect their performance and lead to productivity loss in the facilities.

VM5 Lighting Solutions has designed and developed Extreme Temperatures LED Lighting fixtures for industrial applications and locations that work at ambient temperatures of -112 degrees Fahrenheit to 239 degrees Fahrenheit, differentiating them from traditional fixtures that work in ambient temperatures between -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. The suite of products includes H2L series, which highlights design that brings the new level of illumination to industrial space.

A significant advantage of VM5’s chip-on-board (COB) LEDs for lighting applications is their ability to pack more LED sources into a smaller space to increase lumen output. Heat transfer capabilities to heatsinks, lower failure rates attributed to their straightforward construction, lower light loss, and wider viewing angles exemplify the modality of its lighting fixtures.

The LED modules can illuminate anything, from low-temperature Alaskan US military bases to extremely high-temperature paper mills, making them the first and only LED lighting fixtures to function seamlessly in these extreme environments.

VM5’s competencies came to the fore when two major players in different industry sectors approached it for assistance in resolving their lighting problems.

A paper mill factory was looking for LED lighting fixtures that could work at 220 degrees Fahrenheit in their 42 feet-high ceiling. They had tried many LED lighting companies, but the fixtures could only stay for six months. A separate LED driver in a remote location meant additional wires, less durability, and frequent overloads. Replacing LED fixtures in soaring ceilings was complex and costly, often leading to downtime in the working environment. VM5 Lighting Solutions solved this using H2L LED high bay fixture, which provided 350W with 40,000 Lumens. Compared to the old installations, visibility is like night and day with the new lights.

VM5 Lighting Solutions also helped a military base in Alaska, where winter temperatures drop to -60 degrees Fahrenheit. The LED fixtures they had installed worked up to -40 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature exceeded, the LED driver could not start the LED light as the electrolytic capacitor would freeze. VM5 Lighting Solutions equipped LED design modules in the bases, which led to the LEDs working like a charm and facilitating the necessary illumination.
